Burned Down Our Love

This poem is actually very personal. Sometimes when I write, it's on very general topics or it's on experiences that friends, homies, or strangers told me they've had. However, "Burned Down Our Love" is about me realizing that there are two people equally responsible for the demise of a beautiful relationship. A relationship that was built slowly on love and laughter became destroyed by fleeting outside factors. Such a fucking shame that we can let that happen! Humans are inately selfish.

"For we battle not against flesh and blood but agains powers and principalities"
Ephesians 6:12

Burned Down Our Love
We lost it all in the fire
The memories, the harmony, and the desire
Warm giggles turned into flaming screams
Adultery deflated our bubble dreams
We almost had it all, as the voice would say
Now our body of love is dead and decayed
The pulse of our love has ceased its trimmer
No other arms can warm me, this coldest winter
No other love can feel how yours first felt
Before your heart became cold and difficult to melt
No other flesh can blend with mine like yours
No other comfort can expose me to the deepest core
I can no longer hold on to a long-lost fantasy
I must let it burn, before this thing burns me
I'm in love with what we could be, hate what we are
Baffled by thefact that weve drifted this far
We watched our romance go up in flames
We constantly fueled the pleasure and pain
Want your heat closer to myface, to taste my lust
But our love is volatile it spontaneously combusts
Rescue never came
We were swallowed by the flames
Smoke filled our throats
And choked out any shred of hope
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
We lost it all in the fire, Baby, what happened to us?
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
We lost in all in the fire, Honey, including the trust
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
We lost it all in the fire, Baby, we burned down our love
